Bates Motel

In this day and age where studios tease new films and television series months (and sometimes years) in advance, the end results can sometimes fail to live up to initial expectations. That's why after an an impatient wait, I'm so pleased to see that the first episode of Bates Motel on A&E delivered exactly what was promised - a dark, edgy drama exploring the origins of Norman Bates as a 17 year-old.

Straying slightly from the tale told in Psycho IV: The Beginning, we are shown the event that prompts Norma Bates to up sticks and move from town to town before settling in White Pine Bay, California where she buys the foreclosed Seafairer Motel, much to the chagrin of the original owner. Hoping that his mother has finally found a place she likes, Norman sets about making new friends at school and planning a social life, but Norma has other ideas. Read more...Collapse )
